Hemorrhoids are one of the most common condition to affect humans, having been mentioned many centuries ago. The first descriptions of problems associated with hemorrhoids are found in the Bible, and the occupation of proctology apparently was established then as well.
If you have hemorrhoids, you are not alone. They are a common problem. In fact, hemorrhoidal tissues are a natural part of the body. Most of the time you do not notice them as they help during bowel movements. But if these tissues become swollen or inflamed, they can cause uncomfortable symptoms.
Fissure-in-ano is one kind of ailment that is embarrassing to talk about, given the nature of the symptoms and manifestations. However, it is one of the most prevalent conditions in the world, with millions of people suffering the agony of bad painful fissures.
A fistula is defined as the connection of two body cavities or as the connection of a body cavity to the skin (such as the rectum to the skin). This is not a normal occurrence. One way a fistula may form is from an abscess (pus in the body). The abscess may be constantly filling with body fluids such as stool or urine, which prevents healing. Eventually the fistula breaks through to the skin, another body cavity, or an organ.
An Anal Abscess is an infected cavity filled with pus found near the anus or rectum. If the skin over the abscess breaks, pus may discharge out. Many people may confuse this with hemorrhoids (piles).
An Anal Fistula, almost always the result of a previous abscess, is a small tunnel connecting the anal gland from which the abscess arose to the skin of the buttocks outside the anus.
A pilonidal cyst is found near the tailbone or top of the buttocks crease. It may look like a pit or small depression. In some cases, it may have a hollow tunnel (sinus tract) that connects it to the surface of the skin. Normally, a pilonidal cyst does not cause symptoms. But if it becomes infected, it can cause pain and swelling.
The cause of these cysts is not clear. They may form when a hair is forced under the skin or when a hair follicle ruptures. Or, a person may be born with the cyst. These cysts are often diagnosed in people between the ages of 16 and 26. But people of any age can have a pilonidal cyst. And they affect both men and women, although more common in persons having excessive hair in the gluteal folds.

Ksharasutra Therapy is an Ayurvedic Parasurgical Technique. Great Indian Surgeon Sushruta narrated in his teachings the use of Kshara for cure of fistula in ano and other anorectal diseases. The work of Sushruta was later compiled as “Sushrut Samhita” in the 5th century A.D. Acharya Chakrapani Datta (10-11 Century A.D.) and Acharya Bhav Mishra (16-18 century A.D.) have described in their classical Ayurvedic texts, the method of preparation and treatment of fistula in ano by use of Kshara Sutra (K.S.). It is being used for the successful treatment of Anorectal Diseases from many years.
In this technique, a specially prepared thread (Kshar Sutra) is used to cure diseases. Kshar Sutra acts by “Herbal Chemical Cauterisation” and removes the disease from the body.
Many studies have been published by Ayurvedic doctors recently with encouraging results for treatment of fistula in ano and other anorectal diseases by use of Kshara Sutra.
